Silverwood Park Visitor Center
The Silverwood Park Visitor Center renovation enhances the quality of life for all residents in the Three Rivers Park District, bringing several significant improvements to the park. These include a new modern visitor’s center equipped with concessions and a 260-seat main hall, a new paved trail system, reconstruction of the island foot bridge, updates to the existing park maintenance facility, a complete overhaul of the park’s main entrance and parking lot, and an outdoor amphitheater that can accommodate up to 1,000 people for performances of dance, theater, and music.
In addition to these improvements, the project adhered to the State of Minnesota’s Buildings, Benchmarks & Beyond (B3) guidelines for sustainability. This commitment to sustainable practices was recognized with the MSPBJ Best in Real Estate Award and the Minnesota Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects Design Award of Excellence.
Preserving the White Oak Woods
One of the significant challenges we faced during the project was the installation of a paved path through the white oak woods. To preserve the woodland, we collaborated with Three Rivers Park District and the design team to adjust the path and its grading, thereby minimizing the impact on trees and their roots. During the project, the team also discovered buried debris in the geothermal field, which posed a risk to the new geothermal system. We took immediate action to remove the debris prior to drilling, safeguarding the geothermal loops and ensuring the system’s integrity for sustainable energy use at the center.
This project underscores our commitment to environmental stewardship and community service. We look forward to continuing our work in creating spaces that serve and enrich our communities.
