Arden Hills Army National Guard Field Maintenance Shop
Located at the Twin Cities Army Ammunition Plant (TCAAP), this state-of-the-art facility includes the space and equipment necessary to maintain National Guard vehicles and provides a centralized location for guard training around the Twin Cities. Along with thirty-six maintenance and training bays and four warm-up and wash bays, the building also includes tool rooms, offices, classrooms, and a fitness area. The scope of work also included approximately fifteen acres of paved concrete for the storage of over 1,500 armored and non-armored military fleet vehicles.
This project received the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal Best in Real Estate Award, was named a Top Project by Finance & Commerce, and was a finalist for two Minnesota Construction Association Project Achievement Awards.
Keeping the National Guard’s strong focus on sustainability in mind, the design incorporated several eco-friendly features and earned it a LEED Gold certification. Features included a green roof over the office, geothermal heating and cooling systems, passive solar technology, photovoltaic cells, and high-efficiency LED lighting equipped with motion sensors to further minimize energy consumption.
The military’s rigorous security controls and safety measures were also applied to the on-site solar field. The process of securing the field necessitated detailed documentation and an exhaustive commissioning process. This ensured that the facility not only complied with military standards but also made significant contributions to energy efficiency and sustainability.
