Hilton Tru and Home2 Suites

This eight-story, 201-key Hilton Hotel is dual-branded for Home2 Suites and TRU by Hilton. Nestled in downtown Minneapolis, the structure dates back to the early 1900s. Originally the Western Union Bank Building and subsequently the William E. McGee Building, prior to the renovation, it served as the Public Defender’s offices for Hennepin County until 2012, remaining vacant until its conversion into a hotel in 2020.

The property includes a fitness center, pool, and convenient parking facilities. Close collaboration with Hilton stakeholders ensured each brand met or exceeded the established standards.

Navigating the Challenges of a Historic Renovation

During construction the team discovered the presence of lead-based paint and asbestos, both of which were meticulously remediated. In alignment with city code and ADA requirements, we upgraded elevators to ensure the safety and comfort of guests to the property.

Located in the heart of downtown Minneapolis, this site was so logistically challenging that the crane pad had to be located within the footprint of the building and the addition was built up around it.
