Kirkendall Public Library
The Kirkendall Public Library is a state-of-the-art, two-story facility situated in the heart of the Prairie Trail development. Its modern design features second-story bridges that span across a double-height public lobby, creating an open and inviting space. The west end of the library houses a children’s play area, surrounded by stairs and adorned with warm wood accents, providing a comforting and engaging environment for our youngest visitors.
In addition to its primary function as a library, the building also serves as the city council chambers, further establishing its role as a civic center. On the east end, a versatile suite of rooms is available, capable of functioning as meeting spaces or conference rooms, catering to a variety of community needs.
One of the standout features of the library is its innovative mechanical system. This system is based on distributed floor-mounted heat pumps powered by a geothermal well field. This well field, consisting of 126 pumps, is strategically located beneath the library’s parking lot. By harnessing the earth’s natural and consistent subsurface temperature, these pumps efficiently heat and cool the space above, providing a comfortable environment for visitors while minimizing the library’s environmental impact.
