The Drake Marble Building
The Drake Marble Building, constructed over 100 years ago as a marble cutting and polishing plant, is situated on the West Side of St. Paul, across the Mississippi River. It now finds itself in the heart of St. Paul’s Riverfront Redevelopment area as a four-story first-class office building.
Stahl removed the building’s exterior and completely gutted the interior, exposing the aging structure for inspection by engineers. After making the necessary structural repairs, the entire building was reclad. A large atrium, surrounded by full-height cornerless glazed glass, unifies the common areas across all four floors.
This project was a finalist for several awards, including the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal Best in Real Estate Award, the Commercial Real Estate Development Association (NAIOP) Awards of Excellence, and the Minnesota Construction Association Project Achievement Award.
